Elan Valley Mutton

In 2005 a diversification project was started at Henfron Farm to sell mutton from the farm direct to customers in the fine food market place. This was challenging but very profitable as there was a surplus of older sheep due to decreasing flock sizes. The financial value of sheep increasing in 2008 which was welcome news for sheep farmers but did make adding value by processing and retailing very challenging. Due to low profitability Elan Valley Mutton ceased selling mutton altogether by 2012.

Huge thanks to Tony & Angela for being such great hosts. Accommodation was ideal, super location and the farm visit was a real treat.

What a lovely place. Brilliant location especially if you have a dog as you are straight onto the Elan trail. The house had everything you could want for a really comfy stay with a lovely log burner and 3 really comfy bedrooms. We have stayed in lots of places around Rhayader and would rate this the best we have stayed in for views and amenities. The farm visit was great fun . Loved the pigs and alpacas and my sons loved cuddles with the lambs even though they are 27 and 24 years old.

The Elan Valley

The Elan Valley is a stunning area of unspoilt countryside, the Victorian reservoirs provide fabulous views. The area boasts fantastic wildlife, birdwatching opportunities, fabulous walks, running and the Elan Valley Trail.
